All the lonely people, where do they all come from?

No Shoes, No Same-Sex Marriage, No Service of the Day: New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez will have find a new place to get her hair did after her openly gay stylist refused to allow her back in his salon until she changes her stance on same-sex marriage.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” Antonio Darden, owner of a popular hair studio in Santa Fe, told KOB Eyewitness News. “Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.”

Darden, who has been with his partner for 15 years, took issue with Gov. Martinez’s statement that marriage should be restricted to one man and one woman.

“I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone,” said Darden. “I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together.”

And Then There Were Seven of the Day: “Here in our state we have taken a long and difficult journey, and this is the last step,” declared Governor Christine Gregoire as she signed the bill making same-sex marriages legal in the state of Washington.
The Evergreen State thus joins six other states (MA, NH, VT, CT, IA, NY) and the District of Columbia in recognizing the right of same-sex couples to marry.
The law doesn’t officially take effect until June 7th, meaning opponents have until June 6th to gather the 120,000 signatures necessary to stop same-sex marriages and put the issue on November’s ballot.
In related news, New Jersey’s state Senate today also passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage, but the Garden State has still a ways to go: Gov. Chris Christie has vowed to veto any same-sex bill that crosses his desk.

So that church question reminded me of something.

My sweet, elderly nan was banned from the Catholic church because she interrupted a sermon and told the entire congregation to go to Hell after they shunned my Uncle for coming out. She also called the Father (or whatever) a cock sucker, and said she was proud her son was one. (Ha!)

So yes, my nan is a total BAMF and there should be more people like her in the world.

Your nan is fucking awesome.

I wish my grandmother was that cool…

Can someone give this woman a medal or something?

So, this is decently badass.

I’m just spreading your nan’s amazingness.

Gay Walmart Employee Forced To Wear Identifying Clothes

iisabelle:v:v:

thegaymovement:

Las Vegas NV – A temp employee at Walmart was pushed into revealing his sexual orientation by his boss. After revealing that he is gay, he was stripped of all responsibilites and forced to wear a yellow vest to work while facing further harassment from his employers.

This article truly did make me tear up- tear up to the fact that this was discrimination beyond measure. Fernando Gallardo was outed to his fellow coworkers by his boss. Succeeding that session, he was faced with much discrimination and prejudice from the people around him. He was faced with cruelty- up to the point that he was forced to wear a yellow vest at his work place to signify others that he was a homosexual.

Who does this? To be stripped away from his daily duties, and to be made explicitly different from the others by wearing the yellow vest, makes him seem inferior to others- and that was their exact intention. To suppress his sexuality and pride.

People, this is what homophobia has come to in the world. They do not seem to know that this is the year 2010 that we are living in. No matter how advanced we are with technologies and customs, are we still not able tolerate difference? Like I said, this is purely child’s play. Fernando Gallardo should have never put up with the intolerance in the first place- for he had his rights as a worker, yet, they were taken away from him just because he was gay. No one was there to help him, not even Nevada’s Equal Rights Commission.

If people come true to themselves, then we should praise them; not condemn them. People like Fernando Gallardo are strong, and I praise them for that; however, we cannot let this continue. Absolutely cannot. These are lives that we are talking about- lives that are deprived of rights and equality. We need a movement. -TheGayMovement

There is absolutley NO reason for this type of discrimination to be happening.

Straight Man Comes Out To Anti Gay Family On Principle, Family Disown Him

optimisticcynic:

outingthemusicindustry:

Coming out as gay and knowing that you might end up losing your family for making the decision in order to remain true to yourself is a very brave and tough decision to make, however what  heterogay, a Reddit user, decided to do last week takes it to a different level, He came out to his family in response to their negative attitude to gays and DADT even though he isn’t even gay!

Yes, that’s right heterogay is 100% straight, but decided that if his family couldn’t bring themselves to love him as a gay man he didn’t want to have anything to do with them, and from their response since it seems they can’t, something that heterogay admits he’s finding very hard, but feels so strongly about gay rights that he wouldn’t now have any other way.

Heterogay, you are our hero.

You can read his message about what happened below:

“I’m a straight male. Very straight. I love women.

I also totally support gay rights – with all my heart. I can’t STAND bigotry and it really pisses me off that you don’t have equal rights.

I’m straight but if I have a son or daughter that’s gay I’ll be damned if they don’t have the same rights that I do….

My family however, is fairly homophobic.

They live on the east coast. I live in SF.

I’ve never let them say anything discriminatory in front of me without it being challenged and flat out calling them hateful bigots.

This guy has way more courage than I could ever have.

Though my family has told me on multiple occasions that it’d be fine if I was gay.

But still, damn. Just damn.

This is amazing. I cannot imagine hating your own child for their sexual orientation. This guy is awesome.
